The Singers started in 2000 as a smaller choir, which would meet on a more regular basis than the "big" choir. With such a group of New Scottish supporters meeting up regularly, it was and is our privilege to be able to pray together for the work of The New Scottish every rehearsal.
For an example of the kind of concert that these groups offer, consider the Prodigal Son series. In association with the Scottish Bible Society, The Singers & Ensemble put on a string of Prodigal Son concerts throughout 2003 and 2004, starting with an appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Through narration and drama, words and music, the message of our selfishness and God's forgiveness was presented, together with a free gift for each member of the audience, consisting of a booklet containing the story in picture form only, specially commissioned by The New Scottish.
Now, The Singers are learning new repertoire. They still enjoy the interesting & challenging pieces such as Barber's Adagio or Tavener's The Lamb, but, in the words of one member, they "also like the floaty stuff like John Rutter and more lively gospel type stuff as well" - an eclectic mix indeed! I'll leave the last word to another member of The Singers: "I just love being part of The Singers. I think the prayer cover is really necessary too".
